Barnard College?....?
Someone I know got accepted to Barnard college. I Know it's a all women college but i just want to know is it one of the most highest top college or no?/
and it's a liberal college. Is it suny, cuny or private??
Barnard, one of the elite Seven Sisters, is affiliated with Columbia University, an Ivy League school. A private liberal arts college, Barnard is very selective!
Barnard college?
What is the average sat, act, or PA needed to get into Barnard? is it a lot harder than Columbia?
The average SAT to get into Bernard is a 690 on the reading a 670 on the math a 700 on the writing or a 29 on the ACT just so you know you need about a 3.0 GPA to get in and no it is easier to get in then Columbia because Columbia is an Ivy league school
Want to go to Barnard College, but I don't know how I am going to pay $40,000. Any suggestions?
I am a high school senior and valedictorian. I really want to go to Barnard College in NY, but I can't afford it. Anyone have any suggestions and help? I need details about loans and grants and such. I don't have any good guidance counselors in school.
If the guidance counselors at your school aren't very good at doing their jobs, you might try talking with the financial aid office at the university that you hope to attend. They're typically very good about helping you find ways to pay for school.

You're doing well by having the best grades. That's always a plus. You should also make sure that you do your very best on any college-entrance exams that you take. That's helpful.

There are scholarships available to students of all types. You can get some financial aid through the PELL grant, depending on your income level. But there are loans as well, and other scholarships/grants.

Check with your high school to see if they offer any scholarship opportunities for the top x percent of their graduates. Some high schools do this; others don't. But it's worth asking about, because even a small amount of college money will help you in the long run.

Scholarship applications look best when you have a well-rounded presentation. This typically means that you'll benefit from involvement in extracurricular activities in high school as well as some volunteer work. Scholarship committees love to see this type of thing on your application.

Fastweb.com is a good place to look for scholarships as well. The site asks you for a lot of detailed information about your interests, your background, et cetera, then matches you up with scholarships that you, more often than not, are eligible to receive.

Another option is to, of course, take out loans. Many students have to do this at some point. Repayment isn't too bad, though, depending on how much you borrow over your college career. Anything that you can do to keep the amount down, though, is helpful.
How to get into Columbia University or Barnard College?
I am applying to Columbia and Barnard for this fall but as a transfer and I wanted to know a good essay topic that would help me stand out? Also is going to Columbia or Barnard that great socially or just academically?
Two important factors: Discuss why you want THOSE schools as opposed to others--what programs and features are most interesting to you? Second, address how the school would benefit from have YOU as a student--what can you offer and what have you done as evidence of this? Those two are rarely addressed adequately and they are very important to admissions committees.
Can someone please tell me what the difference between columbia college and Barnard College is?
Someone in my grade who is really isn't that smart got into Barnard early decision, and she's been joining groups on Facebook clike Columbia class of 2012, future columbia graduates, even "ivy league" groups. and I got deferred by Columbia even though i have above a 4.0 gpa and i'm a national merit scholar and i'm in loads of extracurricular activities. Is there really a distinction between Columbia and Barnard students, and is Barnard easier to get into? What really is the difference between attending either school?
Barnard College is an all women's private liberal arts college. Barnard is affiliated with Columbia and shares joint resources with Columbia, but operates independently.

The following comes from Barnard's website regarding its relationship with Columbia:
The Barnard-Columbia Connection

Q: What is the relationship between Barnard College and Columbia University? Can I take classes at Columbia?
A: Barnard College is an independent affiliate of Columbia University. Barnard students are integral members of the Columbia University community, and students on both campuses may cross-register for classes and participate in joint activities, including varsity athletics, outside the classroom.

Barnard's admissions process seems simliar to Columbias admissions process. Both require SAT scores and look at your GPA and admissions interview. You sound as if you fit the profile of many other students who have probably applied to Columbia.

The admissions process at any college can be tricky, top schools are used to getting top notch students, normally some things can help you distiguish yourself from other students.

You could try upping your SAT or ACT score and reapplying or work on your admissions interview. Also knowing alumni also can help you get into the school.

The other alternative is to apply to Barnard and take advantage of the fact you can take classes at Columbia while being enrolled at Barnard and transfer later to Columbia full time.
If I get accepted to Barnard College can I say I'm attending Columbia U?
What will my diploma say? Would I be able to wear a columbia sweatshirt or is barnard strictly different? I know that a lot of barnard students take classes at columbia and vice-versa.
Your diploma will say Barnard College.
Anybody can wear a Columbia sweatshirt, they don't even have to be a student there (or a graduate).
What language courses does Barnard College offer?
I am a prospective student and I am curious which language programs are taught. I can't seem to find it on their website, only majors.
Information is below.
How hard is it to get into Barnard College?
What does the college look for?
Barnard is a very competitive school for admission. College Board (which tends to overestimate the % the colleges accepts) puts their acceptance rate at 28%. 50% SAT scores fall within 1900 to 2190. Of course, they consider many other factors. On College Board, they ranked their admission factors by importance to themselves. The most important were:
Character
Essay
Extracurricular Activities
Recommendations
Rigor of secondary school record
Academic GPA

Good luck!

What are my chances of getting into Barnard College in NYC?
I was wondering what my chances of getting in would be. Currently I have about a 3.6ish gpa and a 27 ACT score. I'm retaking the ACT to improve my scores. I am in various clubs at school and several clubs outside of school. Clubs outside school involve Jewish youth groups. I'm from the midwest, and am hispanic. I also have a bit of a pull because our family friend wrote a book and is willing to write me a letter of recommendation. What are my chances of getting in. HELP!
To be honest, it's up in the air (so to speak). The average GPA for admitted students is a 3.84 and the median ACT score is 30, so you are on the lower end of the spectrum. Rec letters usually only have a lot of pull if the author is well known for their writings, so it depends on who it is that's writing...but make sure they can write a spectacular one about you. This is one of the only ways colleges get to know you as someone other than a number (the other being application essays).

Ethnicity is considered, but not marked important in deciding on an applicant. They say that where you live doesn't matter, and while colleges normally try to get a diverse group, Barnard lists admissions for Midwestern students as around 8%.

I don't mean to rain on your parade here, though!! If you really love Barnard, show them. Talk to alumnae, visit the campus, contact and ask questions. Use your extracurriculars to show you have a passion and a bit about you. Raise the ACT (and GPA, if possible) a bit, and try to run for a leadership position (if you haven't already) and you'll have a pretty good chance.

Despite how much I hate people who advertise for random sites, I'm going to do it here. If you sign up for a free account on collegedata.com, the site will compare you to others who have gotten accepted/denied/wait-listed, or are going to apply. I just signed up yesterday and it's helped me put a few things into perspective, and also see that my dream school is within reach! :) It shows whether the school would be a reach, 'maybe', or a 'good bet' based on the stats a mentioned before.

Note: I don't trust collegedata's data (ACT/SAT scores, etc.) on the colleges (only the comparisons between me and others that were admitted/denied)...trust only the college's site itself. This will be the most accurate.

Good Luck!! I hope everything works out for you, and i hope this helped!
Is Barnard College only for women or can men apply as well?
There are several places where it is indirectly stated that the college is only for women but I have yet to find a source that has directly stated that no men can apply (and get accepted).
I believe that it is only for women./ Proof is below.
