| Why are husbands usually older than their wives? It seems like in most couples, the husband is significantly (at least a year) older than his wife. Why is that? | I guess one answer could be if you use the Old Testament example of Adam and Eve as a model for an answer. Adam was created first (therefore older than Eve). Humans have the habit of repeating what they know. The convention of having an older man and a younger woman is just what is the norm. Another answer would rely on the thought that men take longer to mature. Looking at the average age at first marriage information, one could draw that conclusion. I don't think there's anything wrong with a woman being older than her partner (whether it's a first marriage or 10th marriage). It comes down to the person you're meant to be with. |
| Why do older military wives constantly bash the younger ones? Not all of them, but a good majority. They act like they were never young before. Anyone under 25 is "immature, guyish, naive, and spoiled" Among other things... The sad thing is this is mostly on spouse support sites! | The next time you are in a group of younger and older wives, listen to what they are complaining about. The younger ones will be complaining about how 'unfair' their hubby is being treated and how unfair it is that he has duty on a weekend, and how unfair that they are going to the field/getting underway AGAIN - especially considering that they just got back. The younger wives are nothing but VICTIMS (gosh - sounds like you!) The older ones complain about general life crap - junior is misbehaving in school again, the lawn-mower broke again, their daughter crashed the car... but it's STUFF they are complaining about - and very few of them look at themselves as VICTIMS. When you hear the older wives talk about a deployment, it's in fatalistic terms - "Oh, gone another year... that figures," and "Sure, missing junior's birthday - again." They don't complain about how long or how crappy life will be. Yes - it'll be crappy for them, just like it will be for you - but they understand that and live with it. Life sucks sometimes - and they embrace the suck. Guess what - your hubby deals with this as well - the younger troops/sailors whine about how unfair life is and the older folks have embraced the suck. Get used to it. Once you have accepted the things that you can't change - you'll start to get upset at the stupid younger wives that just complain about how victimized they've been... and you'll realize that you've become one of the "older military wives." |
